Komotion for Maya
Introduction

 
 

These tutorials will introduce the Komotion software, covering the key unique features and functionality of Komotion Rigging, Skinning, Animation and Export toolsets.

Komotion Maya Commands

MEL Command: komotion

  • Opens the Komotion UI in the Maya Workspace

 

Komotion UI

Komotion can be docked and undocked into your Maya Workspace.

We currently recommend using Komotion as an undocked window.

 

Using Komotion in Maya

Komotion can be used in both Y-Up and Z-Up Axis co-ordinate systems.

Note for Rigging with a Z-Up Axis: For Skeleton Creation in the Komotion UI, Chain Directions will always be performed with a Y-Up perspective in both co-ordinate systems. Therefore, Rigs and Chains may take some time to learn.

Maya Evaluation Mode

Komotion works in all Evaluation modes. Whilst we recommend using Komotion in ‘Parallel’ mode, there are no differences in performance or functionality across any of the modes.

 

Komotion Core

Skeleton Creation - The Komotion Auto-Rigging panel for configuring, building, and linking Komotion Bone Chains and Rigs.

Core System and Select Controls - Bone Chain and Rig selection controls, and system controls.

Animation and Kinematics Controls - Core Komotion Bone Chain, IK/FK and Animation controls used for Rigging and Animation.

Advanced Animation Controls - For unique posing and animation

Mirror and Posing Controls - Mirror & Flip for Bone Chains and Rigs.

Utility Controls - Bones and Skins Visibility.

Spline Controls - Bone Chain Knots controls, and spline selection.

Accessory Controls - Bone Chain Accessory visibility, weight and alignment.

Scene Object Lists - Configuration and controls for Komotion Scene Object List.

Maya Configuration - Configure Maya for optimal use with Komotion.

 

Komotion Skinning

Prototype Komotion Auto-Skin - Controls and commands for auto-skinning Komotion Rigs and Chains.

Komotion Export

Export - Komotion Rig/Chain export commands and configuration.
